P4 - Pre - production plan
From Unit 2 I'm using a production schedule and a Storyboard.
A storyboard is a visual plan of a media product that allows the production team to see clearly how a project will look. The illustrations are annotated to explain camera angles, movement, lighting, sequencing (scene number), timings so that the crew (for a film production) or graphic designer (for a comic book/magazine) can produce the final piece. When we did Unit 2 we did these types of pre-production documents.
A production schedule is an overall view of media production with all the tasks, resources, timescales included. This is good for planning the deadlines of said task and avoid overstressing yourself with work. It also gives you a good view on what happens when and for how long that task will be produced until it reaches its deadline.
A storyboard is used to give a quick summary of how the scenes in the animation will be paced. This is useful for the animation since it gives me an idea on how the animation will go and plan out any camera shots, transitions or any script writings that will take effect in what part of a scene.
Production schedule:
The production schedule is very useful especially when multiple projects are being made. This makes situations less stressful and if there is anything needed to change i can change it at any time as long as that date hasn't passed.
Storyboard:
The use of storyboard will be essential for my animation because it will allow me to plan each frame before the production begins. Under each frame i can add additional info for what exactly is happening in said frame/scene. One thing about the storyboard is that it can be changed easily at any time if any changes are needed for the specific scene/shot and redo it without affecting a big part of the project.
For this animation the reason I won't be using a script is because since each action and the environment of the scenes will all be understood by audio. Each character will have their own sort of theme like when the camera pans towards Wolfgang (the muscle man) a sound of a tuba will be playing and depending on the scene like for the beginning the music will be slow paced and will become fast when the beast arrives.
Treatment
For this section, I'll be writing down more in-depth of how the story will go of the animation.
The animation will be looking into a group of survivors that have been stranded in the middle of winter while enduring the misery of winter.
Story of the Animation
The story will revolve around a group of survivors that have setup a campsite to hopefully endure the winter and survive. The group consists of three character: Wolfgang(The Strong Man), Wendy(A small child), Wigfrid(A Valkyrie). While they try to keep themselves warm, Wolfgang comes up with an idea of how to ease the pain from the frost and reaches into his backpack to bring out a piece of ham. With it he believes the warmth of the cooked ham will keep them cozy till the morning, but unfortunately winter brings It's next misery by freezing the ham piece to prevent them from keeping themselves warm. From that event, Wolfgang runs out of ideas and gives up on trying any further having the fear that he could hurt his group with false hope. With the group sitting hopeless, a distant sound of footsteps is heard by the group which gets them alerted and bring out their weapons to stay on guard. As the beast approaches, the team prepare for a fight with the monster and take it down. After that Wolfgang notices something in the distance which appears to be another campsite with three other survivors on it which are: Wilson, Willow, Webber. It is seen that they are gathering materials to endure the last breath of winter, but while one of them is chopping the tree down it lands on Wilson. Webber and Willow start laughing knowing that Wilson is okey and they also notice the previous group of survivors and give a wave. Coming back to the previous camp, they set off to the new camp and the animation ends with Wolfgang being the last one to leave the frame.
Sound use
The use of sound will be crucial not only to further give the feel of the environment in the animation, but to also give an idea of what's happening at the current moment. This will be perfect especially with the scene of the beast appearing, since the audience will need to get an idea that the beast is approaching.
Extra Elements
For this section, I will document what extra elements I have added to bring out the idea of the animation. These will mostly be extra details that will be added during the animation process. First element will be about the Misery of winter. The way this will be demonstrated is by showing objects normally used to fight adainst winter being sabotaged. One of the sabotages will be the campfire being extinguished, despite the amount of heat the fire emits, the breeze of winter is able to extinguish it right away. Another sabotage will be when Wolfgang reaches out to grab the ham but it freezes when taken out.
